Join the sisterhood of motherhood
Let me be brutally honest– motherhood can be scary. Don’t get me wrong. It’s the best thing in the world, but no one tells you about the pressure, fear, and even depression that can come with it. But other mothers will. I am sure your partner is very supportive, but no one will have the same insight as another mother. You can feel alone, and, dare I say, resentful. And it is reassuring to know others have felt the same.
Make friends
If all your friends are single or too busy to make time for you, don’t submit to isolation. Get out there and find new ones. Specifically, find mothers who have children around the same age as your own, or older. And if you don’t have time, make time. Your first responsibility is baby care, no doubt, but if you are not in a great state of health and mind, that will reflect on them. You know when the air hostess tells you if the oxygen masks should fall, put yours on first, before you put a child’s on? Well, that’s the same here.
Talk it out
Exchange ideas and learn from each other. Remember, there is no one magical formula. But you can get tips. Empathize and support each other. It works better if you are open and encouraging to each other. Maybe you can work out a regular time to just meet and have tea with each other. You know what they say; two minds are better than one.
Learn to ask for help
I know it can be hard to admit you are in over your head – I guess that’s our nature. But mothers can relate to you. That is why it is so important to talk about your emotions and fears, because when you get that weight of your shoulders, you will be able to see things better.
The most important thing is, don’t be too hard on yourself. You are an amazing human being, you have the greatest job on Earth of being a mother, and you are allowed to have a bad day now and again. Get strength and solace from other moms - you will be able to enjoy motherhood so much more.
