Plan your baby's first birthday

Hooray… your baby is one. You've made it through the first year of parenthood, and after all the hitches and glitches, it’s time to celebrate! Reaching the first year mark is also very significant for baby development. Whether you want it to be an intimate gathering of family and friends, or a big celebration, this is going to be special. Most probably, your baby is not going to remember how the birthday party went, but obviously you are going to take pictures and make videos, which will be cherished memories that you (and your child) can look back on for years to come.

Whether you choose it to be inexpensive or over-the-top, you need to plan and prepare for pulling off an enjoyable and memorable party.

Budget it well

Since this event is going to mark your baby’s first year in this world, you might feel pressured to make it a big event, even if you can’t afford it. If you don’t want to spend a fortune on this event, budget it well by limiting the guest list, doing do-it-yourself for cakes, food and party décor, and going paperless for invites.

Choose your theme

Choosing a theme for a 1-year-old can be tricky, as they cannot choose it themselves. Get your cues from your baby’s favorite toy or character on TV or in a book. You can also theme the party according to weather. An indoor party during hot weather is obviously going to be different from an outdoor spring bash.

Keep food simple

Keeping food simple is the best idea in order to keep budget in control. If you are inviting many little kids, lots of your food is going to end up on the floor anyway. Go for finger food as it is preferred by babies, kids, and adults alike. Don’t forget to order or make a lovely birthday cake, as it is going to be the center of attention – of course, along with your baby.

Party favors and play area

For babies and kids, allocate a safe area filled with toys and games to keep them busy and entertained. Don’t forget party favors for kids, as it is customary and kids love to receive gifts.

Remember not to stress, even though throwing a 1st birthday party is not easy. Enjoy this precious time with your baby and guests by not paying attention to spilled drinks, smashed cake or crying kids. Just keep baby wipes handy to clean up any mess.

Now go out there, have a great 1st birthday for your child, and don’t forget to have some fun too!
